Former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic shed light on his ritual of watering the ‘magic’ tree in his resort and explained what it meant to him.

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic is a nature lover. With the 24-time Grand Slam champion being in China, he took the opportunity to water the ‘magic’ tree which is said to be more than 1000 years old.
When asked to explain this ritual, Djokovic said that it was his way of paying tribute to an incredible life. He revealed that he had watered the fortune tree when he was in Shanghai last time as well and decided to repeat his actions.
The former World No. 1 talked about the plight of modern-day life and how people lose connection with nature due to their fast-paced lives. Djokovic said that this age-old tree grounds him and puts him in place. He said that it reminded him of “how small we are” when compared and “how respectful” everyone should be.
While explaining his ritual of watering the tree, Novak Djokovic also talked about his fondness for mother nature. He said that he grew up on mountains, which made him respect every life that nature holds.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the only tree that Djokovic has a special connection with. He also has a tree ‘friend’ in Royal Botanical Gardens Victoria. A report claimed that the 37-year-old has been visiting the tree every year for the last 15 years.
Earlier this year at the Australian Open, Djokovic revealed that “there’s one particular tree” in the botanical gardens that he’s “been having [a] special relationship with” for the last 15 years. It is believed that the Serbian meditates under the tree to “ground himself”.
I’m a big nature lover. I love to spend time on the mountains. I grew up on the mountains, so I respect every tree, every plant, every flower, every root, every stone has importance in our existence. I have a very respectful relationship with nature and I try to be, as much as I possibly can, because of the clean air, because of all the incredible health benefits that nature gives.
