Brittney Griner, a powerful individual, endured the horrific experience of being in a Russian prison and also faced the pressures of her basketball career

Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner believes that she’s “blessed” to be part of Team USA and to represent the United States in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The nine-time All-Star will be traveling to Europe for the first time since her harrowing detainment saga in Russia back in 2022. Griner has now put this traumatic experience behind her, and she’s ready to leave U.S. soil, trusting that everything will be all right.

According to Griner, this has a lot to do with the current state of her mental health. In a recent interview, the 6-foot-9 center opened up about how important counseling has been for her throughout this ordeal.

“Just having really good people around me, people that understand me, know me and see the signs that I might be wavering,” Griner said, via Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “And  not being scared to seek counseling.

“I think more people should do it. It’s a resource that is there for us. I feel like everyone should have someone to talk to. Sometimes it hard to talk to family members and friends because sometimes you feel like there is a bias there.”

Griner has already moved on from her scarring 10-month detention in Russia. However, she revealed that she still receives counseling.

“When you have a counselor, there is no bias,” she said. “They are there for you to make sure that you’re great. I still use it to this day. Even though I’m in a good place, I still use it.”

It takes a powerful human being not only to live through that horrific spell inside a Russian prison but also to be able to move past the agony of that experience.

Brittney Griner’s journey to the Paris Olympics with Team USA is nothing short of inspiring. Despite her harrowing detainment in Russia last year, she considers herself “blessed” to have the opportunity to represent her country on the international stage. Griner’s resilience and mental strength are truly commendable, as she attributes much of her healing and recovery to the counseling she has received. In a recent interview, Griner spoke openly about the importance of seeking professional help and the positive impact it has had on her mental health. She emphasized the value of having unbiased support from a counselor who is solely focused on guiding her towards a place of well-being. “When you have a counselor, there is no bias,” she explained. “They are there for you to make sure that you’re great.”Despite being in a much better place now, Griner continues to prioritize her mental health by consistently attending counseling sessions. She believes that everyone can benefit from having someone to talk to, someone who can provide support and guidance without any judgment or preconceived notions. This proactive approach to mental wellness is a testament to Griner’s strength and resilience.Moving forward, Griner is focused on her journey with Team USA and is determined to give her best performance at the Paris Olympics. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the impact that seeking help can have on one’s overall well-being. By sharing her experiences and advocating for the benefits of counseling, Griner is not only inspiring others but also breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health care.As we continue to support and cheer for Brittney Griner on her Olympic journey, let us also take her message to heart and prioritize our own mental health.
