Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers were put through some extra work this offseason as they’ve already managed to upset the NFL regarding the league’s gambling policy.

The former LSU teammates are among the favorites to be selected as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 and had bet on themselves (literally) before the start of their debut campaigns.

According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, the rookies were ordered to take additional gambling education courses following a $10,000 bet between them on who would win said award.

Nabers ill-advisedly revealed the bet while speaking as a guest on ‘The Pivot Podcast,’ sharing the details of their friendly wager.

“We got a bet going for rookie of the year. Whoever lose gotta pay I think it’s $10,000 cash,” Nabers said.

Jayden Daniels Did Not Appreciate Malik Nabers Being Such A Blabbermouth

Daniels, meanwhile, wasn’t so happy to find out that his former target ratted on their arrangement.

“Man, he wasn’t supposed to tell nobody. It’s supposed to be — we got a little something going on,” he said to Keyshawn Johnson in an interview.

They called it off after discovering they had violated league policy, but that wasn’t enough for Roger Goodell and Co.

“The league addressed the matter directly with the NFL Players Association, with the two teams, and the two players, to ensure that they understood the policy,” NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller revealed to the Washington Post. “They received multiple education training sessions since that time, and I think we’re in a — as a result of all the work that went into it we’re comfortable with the resolution.”

While Nabers is an elite-level receiver, it doesn’t appear he can keep a secret.

Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers created quite a stir this offseason when they found themselves in hot water with the NFL due to a friendly wager they made on who would win Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024. The former LSU teammates are highly touted as potential award winners, leading them to place a $10,000 bet on themselves. However, their secret bet was spilled by Nabers during a podcast appearance, leading to both rookies having to undergo additional gambling education courses as a result of violating league policy.Daniels expressed his disappointment in Nabers for revealing their private agreement, emphasizing that it was meant to be kept between them. The bet was ultimately called off, but the NFL took further action to ensure that all parties involved understood the seriousness of the situation. NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller confirmed that the league addressed the matter with the NFL Players Association, the respective teams, and the players themselves, providing multiple education training sessions to prevent similar incidents in the future.Despite Nabers’ talent on the field, his inability to keep their bet under wraps raised concerns about his discretion. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of abiding by league policies and maintaining professionalism both on and off the field. The NFL’s swift response highlights the organization’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the game and holding players accountable for their actions. As fans eagerly await the start of the 2024 NFL season, the incident involving Daniels and Nabers serves as a cautionary tale for players at all levels. By adhering to the league’s policies and conducting themselves with integrity, athletes can avoid unnecessary distractions and focus on delivering standout performances on game day.
