While Travis Kelce joined his girlfriend Taylor Swift for much of the European leg of her historic Eras Tour,
he was thousands of miles away for the 14-time Grammy winner’s most harrowing stop.
Swift was forced to cancel a three-night stop in Vienna after Austrian authorities claimed
that a 19-year-old suspect planned to target attendees outside the venue with knives and homemade bombs.
The Chiefs star was reportedly left feeling “helpless” regarding the foiled terrorist plot.
And he has firmly advised her that she should get even more security and make safety her “top priority” after the incident.
“Travis is advising her to make her own safety a top priority and wants her to get even more security,” an anonymous source said, according to Life & Style.
“He can’t do much else, aside from pray that she’ll be OK. It’s been so horrible, he hated having to sit back and do nothing but wait.
“He wanted to rush to her side to protect her but obviously he couldn’t do that. Anyway, she had plenty of bodyguards to keep her safe, but still, it left him feeling pretty helpless.”
The Eras Tour has quickly become the highest-grossing concert tour of all time, surpassing Elton John’s lengthy Farewell Yellow Brick Road circuit with over $ 1 billion in revenue. And since Kelce wrapped up his NFL season in February he’s evolved into a near-constant presence at these wildly popular stops.
Kelce arrived in the City of Light in May, taking in Swift’s Parisian show with Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid. The star tight end also appeared in Dublin, London — Kelce even appeared on stage during a dance routine at Wembley Stadium — and Amsterdam in the following two months to watch his girlfriend perform.
However, Kelce would report to Chiefs training camp toward the end of July, unable to globetrot with Swift as the NFL season drew near. And just days before Kansas City’s preseason opener against Detroit, the stunning news of the Eras Tour cancellation in Vienna came out.
Swift was notably quiet in the wake of the incident, concluding the final stop on her Eras Tour from London. However, after returning stateside she issued a statement to her 284 million Instagram followers regarding her emotions following the cancellation and her decision to remain silent.
“Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating,” she wrote. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.”
“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” she continued. “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it’s with great relief that I can say we did that.”
