The image of Yamal almost holding a Ninja Turtle mask in the press conference room after Spain’s victory over France has captured the attention of fans.
Many interpret this as a clear reference to Kylian Mbappé, the French superstar who is often nicknamed the “Ninja Turtle” by supporters due to his resemblance to the famous cartoon character. Mbappé had also worn a protective black mask during much of EURO 2024 after sustaining a broken nose in France’s opening match.
Yamal, who is part of the Spanish delegation, was quickly ushered away by a member of her team after the brief incident. This has led to speculation that she may have intended to mock or make a statement about Mbappé and the French team’s defeat.
Recently, a video surfaced on social media of Yamal carrying a Ninja Turtle mask as she was heading towards the press conference room after Spain’s 2-1 victory over France, but she was quickly escorted away by a member of the same delegation.
Immediately, many people assumed that Yamal intended to mock Mbappé. This is because the Ninja Turtle mask is considered the trademark of the French national team captain.
Mbappé is nicknamed the Ninja Turtle by fans due to his resemblance to the famous cartoon character. The #10 also wore a black mask for a significant part of EURO 2024 after breаking his nose in France’s opening match against Austria.
The members of the Spanish delegation quickly snatched the mask from Yamal’s hands to avoid unnecessary trouble.
However, according to radio station RAC1 and the newspaper El Desmarque, Yamal had received the mask from a fan or journalist near the press conference room, and the player had accidentally taken it. It was therefore not a planned joke as many people had thought when seeing this image.
Yamal was the best player in the semi-final between Spain and France. The young star’s born in 2007 magnificent goal in the 21st minute allowed Spain to equalize 1-1, paving the way for coach Luis de la Fuente and his team’s final victory.
This goal also made Yamal the youngest goalscorer in EURO history, at the age of 16 years and 362 days. Before that, he had also broken two other records as the youngest player to play and create at the EURO.
Regarding the goal scored against France, Yamal said: “I aimed for the top corner of the goal and it was great when the ball flew the way I wаnted it to. I try not to think too much about what’s going on. I just want to enjoy and help the team.
I came here to win all the matches so that I can celebrate my (17th) birthday this weekend in Germany with all my teammates.”
