An ace love story is what Scottie Scheffler and Meredith share. From being high school sweethearts to Scheffler taking over the golf world with his Mrs.
by his side at every step of the way. Although Meredith had no clue about golf, after being there for her husband at several PGA Tour events, she is no less than a pro!
“She’s learned fast. She’s a student of the game. She’s come to learn it. She’s spent a lot of time around my parents who love golf,” he said.
Although she has been there supporting the world’s No. 1 golfer on the greens, it looks like Scheffler has to go through the Open Championship at the Royal Troon all alone.
Meredith to take care of Scheffler Jr.?
Scottie Scheffler and Meredith Scheffler tied the knot on December 4, 2020.
Four years down from their winter wedding, their family welcomed another member and before that,
after grabbing four wins for the season, Scheffler went on a break to spend some time with his pregnant wife after the RBC Heritage in April. Then, a month later, they were blessed with baby Bennett Scheffler in May.
As he got back on the course after almost a month for the second major of the season, right after his baby was born, Meredith could not be present on the greens to cheer for her husband. It looks like Scheffler will have to battle another major round without his support system. Baby Bennett is just two months old, and traveling back and forth might be a little too taxing for his health.
This might be one of the reasons that his family is not on the course. However, they were present in Dublin, Ohio, after Scheffler won his fifth tournament of the season at the Memorial Golf Tournament. Baby Bennett celebrated his dad’s first victory after he was born. But too much traveling is what they might be avoiding.
Only one round has concluded so far at the Open in Scotland. And Scheffler has finished it with a T11, landing five strokes behind Daniel Brown, who currently has a score of 6-under 65. Now, whether Meredith has a surprise visit planned for him or not, is still not known, but this is not the first time Scottie Scheffler is opening a major without the presence of his wife.
Meredith Scheffler could not make it to the Augusta National
Scottie Scheffler was clearly in contention as he headed to the Augusta National a few weeks before Meredith went into labor. Given that she was during the final stage of her pregnancy, it was better that she did not go to cheer for her husband at the first major of the season. However, even without her being around, no one in the field could match his swings. He even won with a whopping four strokes.
However, if there was someone who could have stopped his gameplay at any moment, it was his wife, Meredith. He had even stayed before entering the field, knowing that no matter what the circumstances, the moment his wife got into labor, he would rush back to her. But well, that was not necessary because Bennett took his own sweet time to come out!
Now the question is, will the same be the case for the Open as well, or will Scheffler’s fate repeat the history of the US Open without his wife, where he dropped down to a T41? Stay tuned to find out!
