Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll sported matching watches worth a combined £207,480 ($268.k) as they continue to put on a defiant front as a married couple.
The golfer, worth an estimated £200m, filed for divorce in May right on the eve of the PGA Championship,
before making a sensational U-turn and removing the petition less than two months later. McIlroy stated that both he and Stoll believed their future was better together as a couple.
It was after this that McIlroy competed in the U.S. Open, suffering a crushing loss to Bryson DeChambeau in the final round.
The Ulsterman took a break from golf before returning for the Scottish Open, where Stoll was stood by his side.
Stoll followed McIlroy during his first round at the Renaissance Club, in a first public show of love from the couple since the divorce saga.
McIlroy finished tied-fourth before tackling a blustery Royal Troon for the 152nd Open. Unfortunately, a fifth major wasn’t to be and McIlroy was cut, failing to make the weekend with a score of +11.
He and his family wasted no time escaping Scotland, jetting out of Prestwick Airport Saturday morning and heading for Faro, Portugal. On Monday, the couple were then spotted together in Almancil on the Algarve. McIlroy, who owns a house nearby, showed off his ripped physique as he took a dip in the sea.
Stoll and McIlroy also had their daughter, Poppy with them, who could be seen holding Stoll’s hand in one of the pictures. It was yet another united front from the couple as they continued to repair their marriage.
And, in another statement showing, the pair were seen on Wednesday wearing matching Patek Philippe watches. McIlroy donned the World Time Chronograph, valued at around £113.3k ($146.5k), while Stoll wore the £94,000 ($121.5k) Nautilus Watch.
Wearing the matching jewellery is once again another play from the couple appearing to show they are very much in it together and fulfil McIlroy’s promise of having a better future.
When confirming that the couple had indeed pulled their petition, and were very much back on, McIlroy told The Guardian. “There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game.
“Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
McIlroy will return to action in Paris for the Olympics, choosing to represent Ireland over Team GB. It will be the 35-year-old’s second games after competing in Tokyo.
