Former NBA player DeMarcus Cousins talked about his experience from the time when he joined the Sacramento Kings.
Cousins appeared on “The Draymond Green Show,” where the Golden State Warriors star asked him about the difficulties he experienced during the Kings’ rebuilding phase.
The Volume uploaded a segment of Cousins answering the question on X (formerly Twitter). In the video, Green asks Cousins the question, to which he responds:
“It was tough and it was confusing.”
The former NBA player quickly narrated an incident from his rookie year where his former teammate Francisco Gracia called him spoiled.
However, Cousin revealed that the same year Garcia was traded to the Houston Rockets and reached back to him with a different perspective.
“Man, I remember that day I called you spoiled. He was like, I was wrong, we were in a sh*thole.” Garcia said as per Cousins.
DeMarcus Cousins immediately remarked that he was not trying to throw any shade toward the Kings and was just sharing his experience. He affirmed that there are good and down times for a franchise and it was just unlucky that he joined the Kings during their downtime.
The Sacramento Kings drafted Cousins as the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft. During that time the franchise was going through a rebuilding phase on the management level. He spent seven years at the franchise during which he was named to the NBA All-Stars three times.
