The Spaniard trained on Philippe Chatrier, alongside Carlos Alcaraz: he should be able to take to the court, tomorrow
After canceling yesterday’s training sessions, Rafael Nadal came back to work today on Philippe Chatrier to test his physical condition for the upcoming Paris Olympics tennis tournament. Always alongside him is Carlos Alcaraz, with whom he should debut in the men’s doubles tomorrow afternoon against the Argentine doubles team composed of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
To see the Spaniard training is already good news in itself – despite the alarm on Rafa’s physical condition shared by his coach Carlos Moya – even if with the necessary precautions brought by the bandage on his right thigh. Only the next training sessions will be able to say more about Rafa’s real chances of participating in this tournament. The singles debut is scheduled for Sunday. The former number 1 will have a rather uncomfortable first round, against the Hungarian Marton Fucsovic.
Nadal is one of the most anticipated stars of the Paris Olympics, but the presence of the Spanish champion was (and perhaps still is) to be considered at risk. Moya, yesterday, had alarmed the millions of fans of the Spaniard (and all of us media and insiders who love tennis), revealing how Nadal suffered a setback yesterday, deciding to skip all training sessions, to recover.
Moya said that Rafa and his team would give themselves 48 hours to wait and evaluate the situation, but the coach could not guarantee that Nadal would play. His words have clearly shaken the environment, which was already looking forward to his last presence in the Olympic competition, especially with a possible 2nd round against Novak Djokovic. However, nothing is decided yet. Nadal has accustomed us during his legendary career to incredible feats and sometimes unthinkable recoveries.
