Rafael Nadal announces he will retire after the 2024 French Open, with a shocking reason related to his recent health issues.

Rafael Nadal was recently spotted bonding with his son as he gave Rafa Jr. a piggyback ride in Greece. The Spaniard had been practicing in Sani, Greece ahead of his return to tennis at the Nordea Open.

He was last seen at the 2024 French Open where he fell to eventual finalist Alexander Zverev in the opening round. The Spaniard has been away from the sport since the 2024 Brisbane International and finally made a comeback in the clay season, playing the Barcelona Open, Madrid Open, and Italian Open before Roland Garros.

He missed the grass season in order to present a strong challenge at the Paris Olympics, which would be played on clay. Ahead of his return, he has been practicing in Greece at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center, Sani Resort.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion was pictured giving a piggyback ride to his baby son Rafa Jr. in Greece.

The Spaniard is set to participate in the Nordea Open, scheduled from July 15-21. He will then play at the Paris Olympics 2024, scheduled from July 26-August 11.

Rafael Nadal hinted at the possibility of hanging up his racquet soon at a press conference at the 2024 French Open. He said that the 2024 edition could be his last time participating but he did not want to close the door yet.

“It is possible that it is my last Roland Garros, but I can not say 100 percent, sorry. I can not predict the future and I’m not in a position to say and I think it’s good news for me. I don’t want to close the door,” he said (via Marca).

The Spaniard said he wasn’t sure about his future yet and could end up retiring if he picked up another injury and felt it was not worth returning. He also added that he enjoyed playing tennis and having his family on tour with him.

“I haven’t played for two years and I’ve been injured again. Maybe I’ll get injured again and I’ll say it’s not worth it. I enjoy playing tennis, I’m traveling with the family and enjoying it with them and I don’t know how I will respond to playing with less limitations,” he said.

Rafael Nadal’s recent sighting with his son, Rafa Jr., in Greece has once again captured the hearts of fans worldwide. The Spanish tennis legend, who has been preparing for his comeback at the Nordea Open, took a moment to enjoy some quality bonding time with his little one.

After a disappointing loss to Alexander Zverev at the 2024 French Open, Nadal has been diligently training and making strategic decisions about his future in the sport. The possibility of this year’s Roland Garros being his last has been a topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike.

During a press conference at the French Open, Nadal expressed uncertainty about his future in tennis, hinting at the possibility of retirement if circumstances were to change. Despite the potential challenges ahead, he continues to find joy in playing the game and cherishing moments with his family on the tour.

As Nadal gears up for the Nordea Open and the Paris Olympics, fans eagerly anticipate watching him back in action on the court. His dedication to the sport and resilience in the face of uncertainty serve as an inspiration to all aspiring athletes worldwide.
