Comedian Nikki Glaser was one of the presenters at yesterday’s edition of the ESPYs and when she presented the award for Best Male Athlete,
she decided to roast nominee Scottie Scheffler.
Nominees for the award included Patrick Mahomes, Shohei Ohtani, Connor McDavid and Scheffler.
But part of her introduction included referencing his arrest in Louisville earlier this spring.
“The nominees include peak athletes who push their bodies to the limit, and also a golfer,” Glaser joked.
“I’m sorry, Scottie. I do know that golfing is hard. I mean there’s putting, chipping and driving… over a cop’s leg.”
That comment got quite a reaction from the crowd.
Scheffler recently faced a felony count and several misdemeanors after a confrontation with a police officer during the PGA Championship back in May. It was a highly-publicized incident and one that has caused some controversy in the city of Louisville amid tensions between the city government and the police.
If you’re wondering why Glaser was allowed to make such a joke, Glaser became the apple of sports fans’ eye a few weeks back when she was one of the roasters at the roast of Tom Brady. Clearly ESPN liked her jokes enough to risk putting her on stage for their signature annual awards show.
