Following a thrilling finish between the Las Vegas Aces and the Chicago Sky on August 25, LeBron James praised two-time MVP A’ja Wilson for her buzzer-beater game-winner.
It had been a tough two-game losing streak for the road team, but they managed to power through with a hard-fought win.
With the possibility of going into overtime, Wilson stepped up to help her team secure the victory.
Before the Aces superstar won the game for her squad, it had been a tough shooting night for Wilson, as the Sky’s defense put forth an effective game plan against her.
Despite her going 8-of-28 from the field, the all-star forward understood that her team couldn’t afford a third-straight loss.
“Game blouses! @_ajawilson22,” James posted.
A’ja Wilson finished the game with an electric double-double outing of 20 points (28.6% shooting) and 18 rebounds, which was to be expected from the MVP candidate.
After dropping two games against Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx, there was pressure placed on Wilson and co. to bounce back.
With the WNBA Playoffs looming close, the Las Vegas Aces (18-11) are in fifth place in the standings. They rank second offensively (105.4) and sixth defensively (100.7).
LeBron James praised A’ja Wilson’s play as of late this season
Back when LeBron James and the USA Basketball were in Paris for the 2024 Olympics, the Lakers forward had tremendous praise for A’ja Wilson. His comments were shared by user Vegas Sports Today on X (formerly Twitter).
“She’s [A’ja Wilson] the best player in the WNBA,” Wilson said. “They hit a hot streak ever since Chelsea Gray has come back … they will be one of the teams to compete that will compete for a championship.”
At the time, both athletes were leading Team USA in the basketball competition of the international event. With pressure to bring home a gold medal and further continue the dominant legacy of USA Basketball, the two superstars delivered on their end. Aside from securing gold, LeBron James and A’ja Wilson walked away from the tournament as the MVPs of their teams.
This season, Wilson is playing the best basketball of her career to date. As the Las Vegas Aces are eyeing to win their third straight WNBA Championship, She is averaging 26.8 points (52.3% shooting), 11.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.
Wilson has garnered praise for leading her team to numerous victories this season as she continues to showcase the improvements she has made in her game.
Greatness recognizes another of the same caliber and LeBron James is nothing short of that kind of stature. With over 21 seasons played, the four-time MVP has not missed a step despite being 39 years of age.
