Sandy toes and a sun-kissed nose!” That’s what Nelly Korda has chosen this time around.
After a T26 finish at the 2024 Amundi Championship, the 14-time LPGA Tour winner has decided to skip the 2024 Dana Open.
The 25-year-old has opted to spend some time away from the greens.
Despite a spectacular beginning to the season, the grueling tournament calendar seems to be catching up with Korda.
So, what has the two-time major winner opted to do instead of teeing off at the Ohio greens?
Nelly Korda has chosen the European summer to rejuvenate and revitalize.
Nelly Legion, an X fan account of the LPGA star, posted a photo of the 25-year-old enjoying her summer vacation. The pro can be seen sporting a bright smile, with pristine blue water glistening in the background. The tweet expressed delight at the smiling Korda, as the caption stated, “Be like NK….Touch grass (or water) and enjoy the summer wherever you are NellyLegion!!“
Nelly Korda has chosen Croatia as her vacation destination. The picture was reshared from the official Instagram account of Nelly Korda, where she could be seen hanging out in the coastal town of Pucisca, accompanied by her two friends, including Croatian pro volleyball player Barbra Dapic.
The last couple of months have been quite tumultuous for Korda, whether on or off the course. From missing three consecutive cuts, including two major championships, the bad spell started at the U.S. Women’s Open, followed by the Meijer LPGA Classic, and finally the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Fans were hoping the 14-time LPGA Tour winner might find her footing again on the European greens. However, a dog bite derailed Korda’s plans to tee up at the London round of the Aramco Team Series.
This isn’t the first time this season that Korda has taken some time off the greens. Previously, the two-time major winner withdrew from the JM Eagle LA Championship, citing exhaustion in her statement: “I am definitely feeling exhausted. With so much still to come throughout 2024, I feel I need to listen to my body and get some rest, so I can be ready for the remainder of the season.” Despite the withdrawals and missed cuts in the 2024 season, the LPGA pro began the season in all glory, racking up wins that also helped her create history along the way.
The first event that the world number one played in 2024 was the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, where she did not perform well, finishing at T16. However, after that came a streak of five wins that has made Nelly Korda one of only three female golfers in history to achieve five consecutive wins. The other two are Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez, who displayed the same magic in 2004 and 1978, respectively.
Even when she returned to the greens from her short hiatus after winning the Chevron Championship, she could not win the Cognizant Founders Cup. She still managed to finish inside the top 10. Despite missing out on her sixth consecutive LPGA Tour win, her fans got to see her lift another trophy at the subsequent event, the Mizuno Americas Open.
Keeping in mind the upcoming big events, the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the last women’s major, the AIG Women’s Open, in Korda’s calendar, some relaxation time should indeed do her well to come back fully energized and potentially clinch more wins. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
