Nelly Korda is ambitious to reach the peak of her career within the next 5 years, which is also when she plans to retire—as promised to her father (video)

WORLD number one Nelly Korda is targeting a dream victory as the Women’s Open returns to the home of golf this week.

The Old Course at St Andrews is staging the final major of the year for only the third time and first since 2013.

Korda is hoping to round off a memorable year in style having won the season’s opening major, the Dinah Shore in April, amid a blistering spell of six tournament wins in seven starts.

The American told reporters at a press conference: “There’s so much rich history out here — it’s been really exciting.

“Coming down 18, the views there are spectacular. It’s going to be such an amazing week. It would obviously be a dream come true to have my name etched into the history.

“But, at the end of the day, I’m just going to focus that one shot at a time and not think of Sunday. I’m just going to think of my first tee shot on Thursday.”

British hopes largely rest with 2018 champion Georgia Hall and last year’s runner-up and world number 10 Charley Hull.
