Minnesota Twins star pitcher Joe Ryan was caught doing something, ahem, out of the ordinary in Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Yesterday was an off day for Ryan, who pitched against the Houston Astros on Saturday. Yet, the 28-year-old somehow made headlines during the Minnesota Twins’ visit to Windy City yesterday.

Cameras caught Ryan speaking to teammate Carlos Correa in the top half of the seventh inning following the shortstop’s home run. While the broadcast was on the Minnesota dugout, Ryan was seen pouring a strange substance down his pants:

We’re not 100 percent sure what that was, but it appears to be baby powder. Either way, the clip has gone viral and made the Minnesota Twins’ star the subject of jokes across social media:

Joe Ryan knows that chafing can be a Problem, and he’s brave and strong for dealing with it publicly. https://t.co/n1A464axBc

Ryan has pieced together the best season of his young MLB career thus far. He is 6-5 with a 3.29 ERA (currently his best mark) with 118 strikeouts against only 16 walks in 109.1 innings pitched.

Minnesota is five games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first in the AL Central, a division the Twins won a year ago. They’re 2.5 behind the slumping New York Yankees for the top AL Wild Card spot, and 3.5 clear of the Kansas City Royals, who are on the outside looking in.

Minnesota Twins In A Good Spot As All-Star Break Nears

The Twins got off to a horrendous 6-12 start, but a 12-game winning streak vaulted them right back into the playoff picture. Minnesota has been one of the hottest teams since mid-April, entering play tonight with a 52-39 record.

But the team is clicking on all cylinders now, and they already look like a team nobody will want to face in October. The Twins ended their unbelievable 18-game postseason losing streak last year by sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays in the Wild Card Series, so that’s one mental hurdle cleared as they try to win their first championship in 33 years.

Joe Ryan, the Minnesota Twins star pitcher, had a bit of a moment during Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox. Despite it being an off day for Ryan, who had pitched against the Houston Astros on Saturday, he managed to steal the spotlight during the Twins’ visit to Windy City. Cameras caught Ryan interacting with teammate Carlos Correa in the seventh inning after Correa’s home run. What caught everyone’s attention was Ryan pouring a mysterious substance down his pants. Speculations suggest it was baby powder, but regardless, the clip went viral, making Ryan the subject of jokes on social media.
Despite the humorous incident, Ryan has been having a standout season in his MLB career. With a 6-5 record and a 3.29 ERA (his best yet), along with 118 strikeouts and only 16 walks in 109.1 innings pitched, Ryan is proving to be a crucial asset for the Twins. The team is currently five games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central and aiming for a playoff spot.
The Twins didn’t have the smoothest start to the season with a 6-12 record, but a 12-game winning streak turned things around for them. Now standing at 52-39, the Twins are among the hottest teams in the league. After breaking their 18-game postseason losing streak last year, the Twins have their sights set on a championship title this season. They are a team to watch as the All-Star break approaches, showing immense potential for a deep playoff run.
