Miles Russell blamed Charlie Woods for his loss at the US Junior Amateur (video)

Miles Russell’s journey at the US Junior Amateur ended on Friday, and he went back home early, similar to Charlie Woods.

On Tuesday, Woods was at 22-over and failed to make the cutline. A similar fate followed Miles Russell before the semi-finals.

Russell triumphed on holes 12 and 15 of the quarterfinals but was outmatched by Jay Leng Jr. on the last three holes.

The golfer reached the quarterfinals of the US Junior Amateur after crossing four stages in the event. The first stage was stroke play, where Miles Russell’s total stood at 1-under.

In the first round, he dropped five birdies on holes 1, 6, 7, 12, and 18. He also had four unsuccessful bogeys to land his score at 68.

In the next round, he dropped five birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey on the 12th to end his score at 71.

Then, in the round of 64, the match ended as a concession and Russell won it.

In the round of 32, Russell won over Billy Davis by 14-19. Russell’s score was two-up after the round. Then, the round of 16 took place and Russell again triumphed against CJ Winchenbaugh with 14-35. His score was again 2-up at the end of the match.

Finally, he reached the quarterfinals, where he faced Jay Leng and lost 14-38. In the semi-finals, Trevor Gutschewski was against Xihuan Chang and won the match. Tyler Watts also clashed against Jay Leng as the former triumphed to go to the finals against Gutschewski.

Miles Russell failed to make the cutline at the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic

Earlier this year, Russell also debuted at the Rocket Mortgage Classic as an amateur but failed to make the cut after 36 holes.

In round one of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Russell dropped two birdies and his score stood at 74. As he advanced to the second round, he scored four birdies and two bogeys to land his score at 70. The cutline was at 4-under and Russell’s total stood at even-par.

Later, after failing to make the cutline, he spoke about his playing experience at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Miles Russell also said that his game expectations didn’t go as he wished.

“It was a good week, just the golf didn’t go the way I wanted to, but it was a great week. It’s pretty perfect. The only PGA TOUR event I’ve been to is THE PLAYERS and that’s probably one of the best ones – so this was right up there with it,” the 15-year-old said ( via PGA Tour).

He continued, “Got off to a nice start and just wasn’t quite able to keep it going, but just needed a couple more putts to drop. The game plan today was same as yesterday, just try to execute better. Did that early, just couldn’t get any putts to fall on that back side.”
