Joy Taylor claimed that Angel Reese’s competition has brought more attention to “victim” Caitlin Clark than ever before, evolving the discourse surrounding her

The discourse surrounding Caitlin Clark continues to evolve, as Fox Sports 1’s Joy Taylor recently claimed that Clark wasn’t relevant until Angel Reese made her so.

Speaking on FS1’s Speak For Yourself alongside the consistently awful Emmanuel Acho, Taylor claimed that no one was paying attention to Caitlin Clark until her University of Iowa Hawkeyes took on Angel Reese’s LSU Tigers in the 2023 National Championship game.

“We were not talking about Caitlin Clark before Angel Reese walked up to her, did this [mimics waving her hand in her face], and pointed to the ring,” Taylor said. “This is not my opinion. I lived it. I watched it. It was recorded, it was broadcasted live. We were not talking about Caitlin Clark before that moment.”

Taylor’s assertions were immediately undermined by sports fans on social media, as clips of Clark being interviewed by the likes of Stephen A. Smith an entire year before the 2023 National Title game resurfaced.

The resistance of some women, whether that be WNBA players or those in the media, to give Clark her flowers has been beyond bizarre considering she’s arguably the most transformational player the league has ever had.

ESPN programs such as Get Up, First Take, and SportsCenter are now routinely covering WNBA games and that’s because of the excitement that Clark, the all-time NCAA leading scorer (men or women) has brought to the league.

Clark, who was named Rookie of the Month in May after being selected #1 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, is averaging 15.6 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. As for Reese, she’s averaging 10.9 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game so far during the early stages of her rookie campaign.

Clark and the Indiana Fever will take on Reese and the Chicago Sky for the second time this season on Sunday, June 16.

Despite Joy Taylor’s claims on FS1’s Speak For Yourself, the truth is that Caitlin Clark was already making waves in the basketball world even before facing off against Angel Reese in the 2023 National Championship game.

Clark had been interviewed by prominent figures like Stephen A. Smith a year prior to the championship game, showcasing her talent and potential to a wide audience.

It is clear that Clark’s impact on the WNBA has been significant, with her exciting style of play drawing attention from ESPN programs such as Get Up, First Take, and SportsCenter.

As the all-time NCAA leading scorer, Clark has proven herself as a transformative player in the league, earning accolades such as Rookie of the Month after being the #1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Currently averaging impressive stats of 15.6 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game, Clark has solidified her position as a top player in the league.

On the other hand, Angel Reese, while also showing promise as a rookie, has yet to reach the same level of impact as Clark, averaging 10.9 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

Despite the upcoming rematch between Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky, it is clear that Clark’s influence on the league extends far beyond her on-court performances.
