Jordan Spieth’s fit of rage at Royal Troon on Friday left Sky Golf commentators scrambling to apologise after an expletive from the American golfer was accidentally aired.
The 30-year-old from Dallas, Texas, is currently making his way through his second round at the 152nd Open Championships in Scotland, sitting T54 with a score of +3.
He will hope to improve on his 71 strokes from Thursday’s round with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young as the tournament progresses.
However, Spieth has been no stranger to mistakes in his current round at Troon, slicing far right onto the railway tracks bordering the tenth hole.
Visibly frustrated by his effort while attempting to guard an even score, Spieth crumbled downwards with a tight grip on his driver while yelling: “S***.”
The Sky Golf commentary team were quick to apologise for the passionate yet foul language that viewers of the Open Championship coverage may have heard.
Spieth would manage to recover from the shot to give himself a sniff at par from seven feet, but would ultimately miss to drop to +1 in frustrating fashion.
Things went from bad to worse for Spieth on the eleventh hole, when he shanked another tee shot out of bounds to force a drop shot. He putted from the fringe of the green for a bogey but ultimately ended up with a double after failing to make the mark, giving him an overall round score of +3 so far.
Young, meanwhile, shares the same score as Spieth – while Scheffler seems to be finding success at Troon, sitting at T11 alongside the likes of Jason Day and Xander Schauffele on -1. While the odds look stacked against him at present, Spieth will be hoping to add to his three major tournaments achieved in his career so far.
The golf pro would win the Masters and the US Open in 2015, before capturing his maiden Open Championship win at Royal Birkdale in 2017. In that tournament, Spieth would raise the title with an overall score of -12, with Matt Kuchar trailing on -9 and Li Haotong coming third with a score of -6.
