The relationship between Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at Paris Saint Germain has made headlines in recent weeks.
Both players arrived in the French capital in 2017 to a significant amount of hype and now find themselves in a midst of a cold war in the PSG dressing room.
After five seasons together, one of the biggest challenges of PSG’s coaching staff has now become managing the relationship between Neymar and Mbappe.
L’Equipe reports that the pair clashed in the past, but that there exists a cordial yet tumultuous relationship between the two players at this moment in time.
Hugo Delom and Jose Barroso also report that the two players do not want to cause direct conflict but the working relationship between them remains precarious.
“Already marked by clashes over the past two years, the relationship between Mbappe and the Neymar seems to have taken a fierce turn this season,” reported Delom and Barroso.
Neymar adds to the Mbappe controversy
Neymar’s latest comments about his relationship with Mbappe, following Brazil’s win against Ghana, have only served to add fuel to the fire.
“My relationship with Mbappe? I don’t…”, Neymar said recently, twisting his face and refusing to answer the question about his relationship with his teammate in Paris.
For his part, Mbappe stated in early September that “there are moments when we are the best friends in the world and others when we talk less
But there is a lot of respect,” when asked about his relationship with Neymar.
The timeline of the Mbappe and Neymar feud
L’Equipe report that the start of the disagreement between Neymar and Mbappe allegedly occurred during the summer
When PSG were considering the transfer of the Brazilian, with Neymar believing that Mbappe was actively trying to force him out of the club.
Since then the relationship has seriously eroded, and even broke down at the start of the current season when the two argued over taking a penalty against Montpellier.
Following the incident, Neymar took to Twitter to like a post that insinuated that Mbappe now owned PSG
With the post going on to state that the Frenchman’s new contract must have a clause that makes him the club’s primary penalty taker.
