Colin Montgomerie became a topic of discussion after a heated @rgument with Tiger Woods regarding Scottie Scheffler’s skills (video)

Scotland, the cradle of golf, once again links together two weeks of historic tournaments.

On Sunday we witnessed the extraordinary victory of Bob MacIntyre in the Scottish Open and this Thursday at Royal Troon – for the 10th time – the British Open will be played.

In 2016 the course witnessed one of the most spectacular duels in the history of this tournament. It starred Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson,

who broke several records, in an edition of the Open in which Tiger Woods could not be present.

This will be the first time that Tiger has managed to chain together the four majors in one year since he suffered serious injuries to both legs in a car accident in 2021.

Reviewing what he has done this year, Woods made the cut at the Masters, although his weekend was catastrophic;

then he missed the cut at the PGA Championship and the US Open.

Tiger is now 48 years old and has already indicated that his future lies in the Champions Tour (circuit for the over 50’s), but without ruling out his participation in the future majors of the regular circuit.

Montgomerie casts doubt on Woods

Another historic player, Colin Montgomerie, believes that Woods is not capable of performing at these type of tournaments.

Monty’, who is now 61 and has never won a major (he was runner-up to Tiger at St Andrews in 2005), told The Times: “I hope people remember Tiger as he was, that passion and charismatic aura that surrounded him. Now there’s none of that. At Pinehurst, he didn’t seem to enjoy a single shot and you think, ‘What the hell is he doing?’ He comes to Troon and he won’t enjoy it there either.”

The Californian has been at Troon since Sunday. Although he is far from being considered one of the favorites this week, the British Open is always a good option for the more experienced players.

In any case, Montgomerie believes the time has come for Tiger to say goodbye: “There is a time when every athlete has to say goodbye, but it’s very difficult to tell Tiger it’s time to go. Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more realistic.”
