AIG Women’s Open first-round leader Charley Hull was spotted lighting a cigarette at the ongoing final women’s Major.
The English golfer made headlines at the US Women’s Open championship when a picture of her smoking and giving autographs to fans went viral on the internet.
Hull teed off at this week’s championship and took the lead after the first round.
On Friday, August 23, she was seen smoking on the 18th hole of the Old Course during the second round.
On her X (formerly Twitter) account, golf analyst Beth Ann Nichols shared a picture of Hull lighting a cigarette and wrote:
“Overnight leader Charley Hull lights one up going down the 18th at the Old Course.”
Charley Hull had a strong start at the AIG Women’s Open, shooting a 5-under 67 to lead after the first round. She began her game with a birdie on the fifth hole on Thursday, August 22, ultimately recording six birdies and one bogey.
However, Hull struggled in the second round. At the time of writing, she is tied for second place and completed 17 holes, starting on the tenth and carding bogeys on the 10th, 14th, and second holes. She recovered with back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes but still has one hole left to play.
“Play pretty solid, it was a lot of fun”- Charley Hull reflects on her strong start at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open
Following the first round of the 2024 AIG Women’s Open on August 22, Charley Hull spoke to the media about her game and mentioned she enjoyed playing at St Andrews. Speaking of her performance, Hull said (via ASAP Sports):
“Yeah, it was loads of fun out there today. Actually before my round I was in there watching it on the TV when I saw the scores, and I thought, how is she 4-under par; that was an unbelievable score,” Hull said.”I’d take that now because it was gusting a lot on the range, and I said to my coach, feels like they could call it at any minute because I don’t know how the balls are staying on the greens. To go out there, shoot 5-under, play pretty solid, it was a lot of fun,” she added.
Since turning pro in 2013, Charley Hull has won six tournaments, including two LPGA Tour events, but is still seeking her first Major title. Her best finish at the Women’s British Open Championship was tied for second place, achieved in 2023.
Hull has enjoyed an impressive season this year, with notable finishes including T7 at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, T10 at the FIR Hills Series Park Championship, and T5 at the Dow Championship. She last competed at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open, finishing in fifth position.
The 2024 AIG Women’s Open is a four-day event concluding on Sunday, August 25.
