Amanda Balionis lauded Scottie Scheffler and his wife for their relationship as she gushed over the couple on Instagram.
The golf presenter was working with CBS Sport covering the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands last weekend as the world No.1 continued his barnstorming success.
Scheffler won his sixth PGA Tour event of the year in a playoff against Tom Kim after the pair were tied on -22 on Sunday.
Scheffler celebrated the moment by stepping off the course and meeting his wife Meredith and their baby Bennett.
The 28-year-old spoke to Balionis while holding six-week-old Bennett in his arms.
Balionis posted a picture of her interviewing Scheffler on her Instagram with his son cradled up in his arms.
“Today, @scottie.scheffler becomes the first player since Arnold Palmer in 1962 (!!) to win SIX times before July 1st,” she wrote.
“His bounce back ability-from a disappointing week last week, and the unexpected events on the 72nd hole- continues to be the standard. To watch Scottie’s pure joy the moment he steps off the course to celebrate with Bennett and @meredithscheffler is one of the cooler things we get to witness this season. World Number 1 does it again.”
Scheffler cruised to victory in the Masters back in April, but his attendance was unsure with his wife Meredith only weeks away from giving birth. He declared that he would leave the tournament at the drop of a hat if his wife was to go into labor. Fortunately for his success at Augusta, Bennett was born the following month.
The world No.1 was able to keep his cool on the course after the conclusion of the final round was interrupted when a group of six climate protesters ran onto the 18th green as the last group were lining up their putts.
The invaders let off smoke bombs and sprayed powder on the putting surface while wearing t-shirts that read: “No golf on a dead planet”. They were detained by police while the crowd chanted ‘USA’ as the group were led away.
Scheffler admitted his victory over close friend Kim was a bitter-sweet moment. “It’s fun competing against your friends,” Scheffler said. “But at the same time, it’s difficult. Because part of me wants him to miss the putt and part of me wants him to make the putt. … But he should remember that putt he made on 18, because it was pretty special. And he’s a great player and a great champion.”
Balionis returned for the event after rumors swirled around her and Rory McIlroy during his temporary split with wife Erica Stoll. The couple reversed their divorce decision ahead of last weekend’s U.S. Open.
