The PGA Tour has announced that Grayson Murray passed away this Saturday.

Murray, who won his second PGA Tour title at the Sony Open in Hawaii this year, only recently pulled out of the Charles Schwab Challenge. 

He was 30.

“We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. 

I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA TOUR is a family, 

and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Commissioner Monahan continued. “They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

The Tour will make grief counselors available for their events this week.

Grayson Murray Had A Standout Career

Grayson Murray showed great promise as a golfer during his formative years. From 2006 to 2008, he won three straight Callaway Junior World Championships and was the top-ranked player in his age group.

He became the second-youngest golfer to make it on the Korn Ferry Tour at 16. 

Murray recorded several impressive wins as he flew up the ranks, though things slowed until he found form again on the Korn Ferry Tour last year with wins in the Advent health Championship and the Simmons Bank Open.

He kicked this year off with a win in the Sony Open, seeing off Byeong Hung An and Keegan Bradley to reach a career-high No. 46 in the world.
