France’s superstar Kylian Mbappe was spotted laughing after Harry Kane smashed his penalty high and dry on Saturday evening.
Theo Hernandez piled into the back of Mason Mount – which the referee initially waved away as France continued to play on.
However, once pulled back by VAR – and after a lengthy check, England were awarded a second penalty in the game.
The Three Lions were 2-1, and they were presented with a golden opportunity to find their way back into the game.
But after Kane blazed the ball into the Doha sky, Mbappe was seen laughing at the Englishman’s attempt.
One English fan fumed: “Someone needs to wipe that smirk off his face!”
“Mbappe laughing at Kane’s penalty miss has riled me. Should’ve put his miss v Switzerland on the big screen directly after,” a second added.
While a third tweeted: “Mbappw might be the best player in the world but he has no class at all. Laughing at Kane’s miss is not sportsmanlike…”
However, one fan saw the funny side: “That shot of Mbappe laughing at Kane’s penalty miss was brilliant – hang it in the Louvre – some great moments of sporting pettiness going on!”
Saturday evening saw Kylian Mbappé’s influence somewhat diminished, as the goals for Les Bleus were instead scored by Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud.
Despite his quieter presence on the pitch, Mbappé’s impact extended beyond scoring, highlighting his versatility and ability to contribute to France’s attacking strategies.
His role, though less prominent in terms of goals, remains integral to the team’s overall performance and tactical approach.
Harry Kane successfully converted a penalty for England, showcasing his proficiency from the spot.
However, when England needed their hero to deliver one final time, Kane was unable to find the back of the net, despite his best efforts.
Despite this, Kane’s contributions to the team throughout the match cannot be understated, reflecting his importance to the squad beyond just scoring goals.
