Paige Spiranac disappointed at the PGA Tour Creator Classic with a last-minute error that allowed her opponent to win (video)

In golf, the object of the game is to keep your score low to come out on top of the leaderboard.

Paige Spiranac, however, is keeping her expectations low for her round at the Creator Classic taking place at East Lake Golf Club on Wednesday.

She will be taking part in the 16-player tournament being hosted by the PGA Tour ahead of the Tour Championship, which kicks off on Thursday at the Atlanta golf course.

Spiranac will be in a field with a gang of fellow influencers, including some of the top names in the golf content game.

Despite Spiranac’s golf background, having played Division I college golf at the University of Arizona and San Diego State, she has been downplaying her chances at East Lake.

“I might win most golf balls lost but that’s about it lol,” she replied on social media to one person who picked her or Mac Boucher to win the whole thing.

When another user told her not to finish in last, she responded, “That’s the expected result lol.”

Over the past few weeks, Spiranac has been tweeting self-deprecating posts about her own game.

“Everyone look away when this is me at the Creator Classic,” she posted with a video of a golfer shanking his tee shot into the woods and being ignored when going for a high-five.

“I’m always one snap hook away from doing this lol,” she posted with a video of a golfer slamming his club into the ground after a wayward shot.

While Spiranac may be downplaying her golf game, her growth into a social-media sensation is undeniable. She has amassed more than 5.5 million followers across her social media platforms and recently had the thrill of a lifetime at the NASCAR race in Daytona.

Spiranac was named the honorary pace car rider and an event official for the Coke Zero Sugar 400, which gave her the opportunity to get on the track before the big race by riding shotgun in the pace car before the green flag was waved to get things going.

The influencer was thrilled with the opportunity and called her night at the track “incredible” in a recap post on her Instagram Stories.

“I am emotional because that was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done,” she said in the post. “To hear the cars as they come flying by me right now … Oh my god!”

At the Creator Classic, she’ll be teeing off in the second grouping with Brad Dalke, Garrett Clark and Mason Nutt.

According to BetCarolina, Wesley Bryan is the favourite to win the tournament at +225 with brother George next at +450. As for Spiranac, she is tied with Gabby Golf Girl for longest odds to win it at +12,500.

The growing popularity of golf content on YouTube and other platforms has caught the PGA Tour’s attention as it looks to continue to grow the game.

“We also hope that that might bring some of these different audiences to the PGA Tour to tune in on Thursday and Friday on ESPN or Golf Channel,” PGA Tour senior vice president of media Chris Wandell said about part of the objective of the Creator Classic.

“Or tune in on Sunday, when it’s coming down to the wire on NBC and these are fans that probably don’t typically watch the PGA Tour.”’
