Scottie Scheffler will play at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta for the Tour Championship. He earlier revealed that he has a handicap advantage when playing at home with his friends.
This time he has a handicap index of 7, which is quite low, meaning he has a higher potential ability on the course. He leads the FedEx standings.
To make the game fairer for other golfers with higher handicap indexes, Scheffler stated that they’d get two extra shots per hole or on difficult holes.
Recently, Justin Thomas was questioned about whether he was agreeable to this arrangement.
He revealed that he’d find it disrespectful and would question his ability. He said (via ASAP Sports):
“It’s definitely not common. I think it would be pretty — I don’t want to say disrespectful,
but I’d be pretty pissed if Scottie Scheffler and I played a practice round and he’s like, do you want a stroke on this nine? It would be like, what do I think of myself and what does he think of me. Honestly, it would be a pretty good intimidation factor.”
“I definitely have some buddies that I play with at home that are maybe mini-tours or stuff like that, people that I’m close enough with where I feel like I can say that and I’ll just — I’ll be like, do you want some strokes or what do you want and they kind of look at me, and I know right then that I’ve already won the match,” he added.
The Tour Championship will start on August 29 and continue for four days.
