Scottie Scheffler had a conflict with Justin Thomas after he made a derogatory comment about his wife: “She’s just a washed-up athlete” (video)

Justin Thomas has fired into a shock rant after Scottie Scheffler revealed the number of strokes he gives friends on his home course.

The twice PGA Championship winner didn’t hold back when he responded to a question about fellow pros that have handicaps at their home clubs. He stopped shy of branding the action disrespectful but admitted he would be ‘p***ed’ and said it is NOT something that happens in the game.

Thomas said: “It’s definitely not common.

I think it’d be pretty, I don’t want to say disrespectful but I’d be pretty p***ed if like Scottie and I played a practice round and he was like, ‘do you want a stroke on this nine?’

“I mean it’d be like, ‘what do I think of myself and what does he think of me if he’s asked?’ Honestly it would be a pretty good intimidation factor.

I definitely have some buddies that I have played with at home.

That are, you know, maybe mini tours or stuff like that, people that I’m close enough with where I feel like I can say that and I’ll just you know, ill be like, ‘you want some strokes or what do you want?’

“They kind of look at me and I know right then that I’ve already won the match because they, you know, that’s what I think of them kind of thing.”

His rant comes after Scheffler – who endured a poor Open Championship at Troon – admitted to playing to a PLUS 7 when back home. He revealed he typically wins the match ups more often than not, calling it entertaining. During his pre-tournament press conference at the Tour Championship, the world No.1 said: “Depends on the game, but at home I’m typically playing to a plus 7. I used to be a plus 5. They moved me to a plus 7. So now we’ve got guys in the group that are getting like two strokes a hole.”

“I typically still will win more often than not, I feel like, but it’s just fun,” Scheffler added. “It’s just entertaining. If you’re going out there with a 12, 13 handicap you don’t know what the heck is going to happen. If we’re playing Wolf there is a lot of volatility there and it’s fun.”

“If I’m at home, pretty much either Friday or Saturday, I’m playing with somebody that I’m giving 20 strokes. I think we’re up to 20 strokes now. And he takes them all. I think if we kept my handicap throughout the year—it’s tough. It’s a tough thing to figure out.”
