Urgent: Fans express disgust after Dave Roberts regrets replacing Jason Heyward with Taylor! They accuse Dave and Los Angeles of being “shameless” for letting a well-rounded player like Jason go!

The departure of Jason Heyward from the Los Angeles Dodgers clubhouse was especially difficult for manager Dave Roberts.

“It was very challenging, probably one of the tougher things I’ve had to do,” Roberts told Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times ahead of Friday night’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. “What Jason did for the Dodgers in a year and a half was pretty remarkable, on the field, in the clubhouse, in the community, and his fingerprint will be everlasting.”

Many speculated that Heyward cemented his spot on the roster after he hit a tie-breaking three-run homer as a pinch-hitter in Tuesday night’s 6-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. He saved the Dodgers that night and it was arguably the best way to showcase why Los Angeles needed to keep him on the roster.

And yet, to the dismay of several Dodgers fans, the tie-breaking homer was his final at-bat in a Dodgers uniform.

Heyward was a beloved player by fans and his teammates. He is also the best friend of first baseman Freddie Freeman. Several people believed the long-time friendship would aid Heyward in remaining on the roster.

But Los Angeles made a business decision and Heyward was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Taylor.

“It was a very difficult decision, but we had a roster crunch,” Roberts continued. “Guys finally came back to health, and we only have so much room.”

Heyward won the 2023 Roy Campanella Award, which is given every year to the Dodgers player who most embodies the spirit and leadership of the Hall of Famer. The accolade is a testament to how respected Heyward was in the clubhouse.

Despite his leadership role for the team, the Dodgers valued Taylor more.

“I think it’s one of those things where C.T. was ready to come back, and you’re trying to appreciate the fact that he’s not hurt anymore,” Roberts said. “He’s ready to come back, and that was kind of the driver of it.”

Heyward hit .208 with a .682 OPS, recorded six homers and 28 RBIs through 63 games. He served mainly in a platoon role in Los Angeles, but most recently served as a pinch-hitter in light of Mookie Betts returning to right field.
