Freddie Freeman’s Heartbreaking Battle Off the Field: Dodgers Star Reveals Son’s Fight Against Rare Guillain-Barré Syndrome Amidst Emotional Family Struggles

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, who was placed on the family emergency list last weekend, revealed Thursday that his 3-year-old son, Maximus, is suffering from Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.

Los Angeles Dodgers Star Freddie Freeman Shares Health Update on His Son, Max

Freeman, who has missed the Dodgers’ past four games, updated his son’s condition in a joint statement with his wife, Chelsea, on Instagram.

“These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives,” the Freemans said in the post.

“Maximus is such a special boy and he has been fighting SO hard.

This is going to be a journey to recover, but we have faith that he will be completely healed.”

The Freemans went on to say that Maximus has shown significant improvement in the past 48 hours and was “excavated from his breathing tube and taken off of the ventilator” on Wednesday.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Guillain-Barre syndrome is a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves.

It can cause weakness, numbness or paralysis.

There is no known cure for the illness, but most people recover completely, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Chelsea Freeman wrote last week that Maximus has transient synovitis, a temporary condition that causes hip inflammation and typically occurs in young boys.

She said that Maximus first had a viral infection two weeks ago when the family was in Arlington, Texas, for the All-Star Game.

Freeman was scratched from the Dodgers’ starting lineup last Friday against the Houston Astros and returned to Los Angeles.

In their post Thursday, the Freemans said Maximus had “rapidly declined and went into full body paralysis” that day, forcing Freeman to rush back home.

An eight-time All-Star, Freeman is hitting .288 with 16 homers, 67 RBIs and a .888 OPS. Cavan Biggio and Enrique Hernandez have gotten time at first base in Freeman’s absence.

The diagnosis of Guillain-Barre syndrome in Freddie Freeman’s young son, Maximus, has shed light on a rare neurological disorder that many may not be familiar with. This condition, which causes the body’s immune system to attack the nerves, can have devastating effects such as weakness, numbness, or paralysis. While there is no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, the Freemans remain hopeful that Maximus will make a full recovery. The past few days have been a rollercoaster of emotions for the Freeman family as Maximus has shown signs of improvement after being taken off the ventilator. This journey to recovery will undoubtedly be challenging, but the strength and resilience that Maximus has already displayed are a source of inspiration for many.It is important to raise awareness about rare illnesses like Guillain-Barre syndrome and support families like the Freemans as they navigate through this difficult time. By sharing their story, they are not only spreading awareness but also showing that hope and faith can carry them through even the toughest of times. As Freddie Freeman continues to be by his son’s side, his absence on the field has allowed other players like Cavan Biggio and Enrique Hernandez to step up and fill his shoes at first base. The support and understanding of the Dodgers organization and fans during this challenging period are a testament to the tight-knit community that baseball fosters. In moments of adversity, it is heartwarming to see the outpouring of love and support from all corners. The strength of the human spirit and the power of unity shine through, reminding us all of the importance of compassion and empathy. Let us continue to keep Maximus Freeman in our thoughts and prayers as he embarks on his journey to recovery.
