Nelly Korda found love off the green with Andreas Athanasiou.
The pro golfer, currently ranked No. 1 on the LPGA Tour, has been in a relationship with the Chicago Blackhawks center since 2019.
Although they tend to keep their personal lives on the more private side, the couple have given fans a few glimpses into their relationship over the years.
“It’s pretty fun, it’s nerve-wracking,” the Canadian-born hockey pro told TSN about how he was feeling seeing his girlfriend compete in the 2022 Canadian Women’s Open.
He added, “I don’t really like watching, I get pretty nervous behind the shot.”
From their relationship debut to how they have supported each other, here’s everything to know about Nelly Korda and Andreas Athanasiou’s relationship.
They’ve been linked since 2019
It’s unknown when Korda and Athanasiou began dating, but the pro athletes were publicly linked for the first time in 2019.
They reportedly debuted their relationship on Instagram with a now-deleted selfie posted on Thanksgiving Day.
Korda wore a hockey jersey to support Athanasiou
In July 2022, Athanasiou signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The following month, while competing at the Canadian Women’s Open with her boyfriend in attendance, Korda gave a nod of support to Athanasiou’s new team.
The pro golfer wore a Blackhawks jersey — which did not bear a number or name — as she walked on the green while the announcers discussed Athanasiou’s career, per a video posted by LPGA on X (formerly known as Twitter).
They tend to be a private couple
Korda and Athanasiou have kept their romance mainly out of the spotlight since they were first linked in 2019.
They have not attended any red carpet events together and do not post on social media about each other or their relationship.
Athanasiou has a private Instagram account with no posts, while Korda typically sticks to sharing about golf on her Instagram profile.
Athanasiou has attended Korda’s tournaments
Athanasiou has been in attendance for Korda’s tournaments, including when she won the Meijer LPGA Classic golf tournament at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, Michi., in June 2021. The two were photographed posing together with Korda’s new trophy, sharing a kiss and embracing after her win.
“It’s fun to be a part of. She played so well,” Athanasiou told reporters after her win, which was Korda’s first with him in attendance. “It’s exciting, I mean watching is totally different than playing. … I’m so happy for her.”
He continued, “I’m happy to be a part of it, I’m happy to be here and see the win, the first one I get to be a part of. So I’m sure there will be many more and I’m excited for her.”
They play golf together
While supporting Korda at the 2022 Canadian Women’s Open, Athanasiou confirmed that he does play golf with his girlfriend. However, he did not reveal if she’s ever taken to the ice to play hockey with him.
“I can take her maybe on a 9,” he said when asked by TSN if he’s ever come close to beating the Olympian in golf. “[I’ve] come pretty close, but by 18 I think I’d blow up too many times to even come close.”
