The Los Angeles Chargers announced Thursday that quarterback Justin Herbert is dealing with a right foot injury, though the hope is that he’ll be ready for Week 1.

On their official X/Twitter account, the Chargers announced that doctors found a plantar fascia injury in Herbert’s right foot. Herbert has been advised two wear a walking boot for two weeks, but the expectation is that he’ll be able to play in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders:

“Following yesterday’s practice, Justin Herbert was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. Doctors have recommended approximately two weeks in a boot — followed by a graduated return to play protocol — with the expectation that he will be ready for the start of the regular season.”

It’s not ideal news for the Chargers, who need their star signal-caller to be healthy if they’re to compete for a playoff spot in the crowded AFC. At any rate, Bolts fans can only cross their fingers and hope he’ll be ready to go when the regular season commences in five weeks.

Justin Herbert missed the Chargers’ final four games in 2023 after suffering a fractured index finger on his right throwing hand. The Bolts lost all four games without their superstar signal-caller, including a humiliating 63-21 road loss to the Raiders that led to the firings of head coach Brandon Staley and GM Tom Telesco.

Justin Herbert’s Chargers Will Look A Lot Different In 2024

The Chargers’ new regime of GM Joe Hortiz and head coach Jim Harbaugh wasted little time bringing significant changes to the roster. For starters, they bid farewell to offensive weapons Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler.

They signed ex-Baltimore Ravens Ravens JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards to lead the backfield, with rookie Ladd McConkey and DJ Chark headlining the list of new receivers. They also rebuilt the o-line by drafting can’t-miss Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt, who should form a top-tier OT tandem with Rashawn Slater.

The new-look Chargers kick off their season with a home tilt against Las Vegas at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 8.
