Matthieu Pavon is one of the local players competing in golf at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Along with Victor Perez, Pavon is donning the French colors at Le Golf National.

Competing as a local at an Olympic Games always brings a lot of emotion, and Matthieu Pavon experienced it during the first round. 

As the highest-ranked French player in the field, Pavon received enthusiastic support from most of the crowd.

This is how Matthieu Pavon reflected on the support (via Sports Illustrated):

“That was a crazy moment which I wasn’t prepared. At that moment, too big, took emotions, too many people screaming just your name.”

The support of the crowd was much greater than Matthieu Pavon had anticipated. It was not only present on the first tee, but also throughout the round.

“It’s very special, that was something I had to fight a little bit, those emotions, and it was a tough day overall because like the emotions out there, every single shot, every single tee shot, every putt, everybody is pushing you, and wants you to do great.”

“So it’s tough to manage all of this. It takes a lot of energy, and I’m pretty pleased the way that I did so far today.”

The Olympic golf event has a field of 60 players, determined by the world rankings. Matthieu Pavon is currently ranked 23rd, while Victor Perez is ranked 75th.
