Following his disappointing performance at The 2024 Open Championship, Tiger Woods was spotted accompanying his son, Charlie Woods at the 2024 US Junior Amateur Open.
After missing the cut by eight shots, the 15-time major championship winner immediately hopped on his private jet to Detroit to assist his son.
Having won three US Junior Amateur Open titles in a row himself,
fans couldn’t help but speculate why the PGA Tour star would not be on his son’s bag as he seeks to win his first US Amateur title.
The simple answer is that a USGA rule is in place to prohibit this from happening.
The rule states, “a player must not use a parent, step parent, or guardian as a caddie during qualifying or the championship proper.”
Charlie Woods is set to feature in the 264-player field this week at Oakland Hills. Drawing inspiration from his father’s three-peat at the event from 1991 to 1993, the 15-year-old will look to win his maiden US Amateur title after showing great promise on the course this year.
The young amateur qualified for the event after taking home the medal with a one under par score at the Eagle Trace Golf Club in a qualifying event. The 2024 US Junior Amateur marks Charlie Woods’ first amateur tournament. Fans all over social media are applauding Tiger Woods for showing up to support his son, despite enduring a terrible week in Scotland.
