Kylian Mbappe’s debut season at Real Madrid will see him wear the No. 9 shirt, the club has revealed.
The European champions have also disclosed that next Tuesday at noon (11am UK time), Mbappe will be formally introduced to the supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
For the most part of his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappe wore the No. 7 jersey, although Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid presently wears it. Mbappe, meanwhile, was France’s No. 10 at Euro 2024—a position that Luka Modric has held at the Bernabeu since 2017.
Spain eliminated France from Euro 2024 on Tuesday night in the semi-finals. Madrid had held off on making a formal announcement about Mbappe’s debut until after his Euros participation ended.
“Real Madrid C. F. is pleased to announce that Kylian Mbappe will be presented at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium on Tuesday, July 16 at noon,” the team said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.

“Kylian Mbappe will address the media in the Santiago Bernabeu press room after the presentation.”
The decision to assign Mbappe to wear the No. 9 jersey—which had been empty since Karim Benzema left at the end of the 2022–2023 season—was then confirmed by a second club statement.
At the beginning of the 2024–2025 season, a number of Real Madrid players will have their shirt numbers changed. Camavinga, who had been wearing the number 12, will now wear the number 6.
Tchouameni will go from being 18 to 14 years old, while Valverde will drop from 15 to 8. Vallejo will wear the number 18, while Arda Güler, who had the number 24 in the previous season, will wear 15.
“Starting tomorrow, Thursday, July 11, all of these jerseys and Mbappe’s will be available at the Santiago Bernabéu Shop and through all official Real Madrid sales channels.”
